Your domain and hosting on a new site
If your site has moved off Webflow, or we built it in 2026 or later, this is the page for you. There is one thing left for you to renew, and it is your domain.
The two things
Your domain is your address: the
yourname.org.nz people type in. That has not changed. You
rent it a year at a time from a registrar, a company such as
Cloudflare or 1st Domains, in your organisation’s name. It stays
where it is when your site moves, and it stays yours as long as it
keeps being renewed.
Your hosting is where the site lives. It used to be a Webflow plan with its own bill. Now your site is a set of plain files served by Cloudflare Pages from our account, so there is no hosting plan for you to hold, no card for it, and no renewal date.
| What | Where it lives | Do you renew it? |
|---|---|---|
| Your domain | Your registrar, in an account in your organisation’s name | Yes, yearly. Auto-renew does it for you |
| Your hosting | Cloudflare Pages, on our account | No. Nothing to renew |
| Editing, forms and comments | Your Good Hub, run by us | No |
What you look after
Just the domain. Make sure the account at your registrar has a card on file and auto-renew switched on. If your domain is with Cloudflare, the steps are on Setting up your domain. With another registrar, such as 1st Domains, the same two settings are in its own dashboard. Once auto-renew is on, the domain looks after itself every year.
What we look after
The site itself, the Cloudflare Pages project it runs on, and Your Good Hub, where your team edits content, reads form messages and leaves comments. Every change anybody publishes is kept, so any earlier version of the site can be put back.
Your site does not depend on our server to stay up. If it is having a rest, visitors still see your site as normal. Only editing, commenting and sending forms pause until it is back.
When your site moves across
We build the new site at a temporary address first, so you can check it side by side with the old one. When you are happy, we point your domain at the new site. If your domain is with Cloudflare, that is a couple of settings in your account. If it is with another registrar, you swap its two nameservers for the two we send you. It takes a few minutes, we can do it with you on a call, and your registration and renewal stay exactly where they are. Visitors carry on at the same address, and old page addresses are sent on to their new homes.
Your email keeps working. The settings that deliver your mail sit alongside the website ones. When nameservers change, we copy every mail setting across first and check each one before the switch.
After the switch, your Webflow plan can be cancelled. We will tell you when it is safe to, and it is worth doing before it next renews.
If a renewal is missed
The domain is the only thing that can lapse. It goes into a grace period of roughly a month, where everything looks normal and it can be renewed as usual. After that the name can be lost, and a lost name can be registered by anyone, so act on this one quickly.
The hosting cannot lapse from your side. There is no payment on it that can fail.
When the person who set this up leaves
- Add whoever is taking over to the registrar account that holds your domain.
- Check the card on file is the organisation’s, not a personal one about to be cancelled.
- In Your Good Hub, make sure someone else is an Admin, then remove the person leaving from People.
If they have already gone and nobody knows what was set up, email us. We can see what exists and send fresh invitations to whoever is picking it up.
Still stuck
Email [email protected] with your web address and roughly what is happening, and we will look it up from our end.
Still on Webflow? Your page is Your domain and hosting.
